440.0. "Where is DOC$ROOT:[SETUP]" by FNYFS::WYNFORD (The Rented Loony) Fri May 29 1987 06:40

    We have just tried installing BL8 on our test machine. Although
    it seems to have gone well there are a couple of points:

    1. There is no longer a DOC$ROOT:[SETUP] directory. Is this normal?
    If not, what might we have failed to do? There is no reference in
    the release notes or installation guide.

    2. IVP could not find TRIUMB8. Is this normal? I don't think so...

440.1order of installation may be importantCLOSET::ANKLAMFri May 29 1987 10:4514

    1. Yes, [setup] is no longer necessary. We designed BL8 so that
       it would be useable without any users having to put any startup
       commands in their LOGIN.COM files. If you have local logical
       names you want to use, you should use DOC$ROOT:[LOCAL].

    2. Did you install the LN03 font kit before or after you installed
       the DEC internal kit? We've had some IVP problems like this,
       and most seem to be related to the order in which those two kits
       are installed.

440.2Fonts first...FNYFS::WYNFORDThe Rented LoonyFri May 29 1987 11:209
    We installed the LN03 kit before the internal kit.

    Now, I have two local doctypes which are similar and one claims
    to be looking for TAG$STANDARD_FONTS.LN03_FONTS and the other works
    fine! Trouble is, the DOC$DESIGNS.DAT uses the same line for each
    bar the macro defs! (Sound of someone in France whimpering at the
    end of a long week... :-)  )

440.3file name changesCLOSET::ANKLAMFri May 29 1987 11:358

    The file name changes were listed in the release notes in the section
    for system administrators. Just change TAG$STANDARD_FONTS to
    TEX$STANDARD_FONTS for BL8 and you should be all set.

    Please check your base level 8 DOC$LN03_FONTS directory to be
    sure you have a complete set of fonts.

440.4Caught by the abbreviation trap...FNYFS::WYNFORDThe Rented LoonyMon Jun 01 1987 11:5110
    Just to keep those watching up-to-date...

    It seems that I had a personal format that I had forgotten in the
    change from BL7 to BL8. Two of the names had the same first 6
    characters and therefore the personal one was chosen over the
    system-wide one.

    Silly me!
