I just received a call from a system manager who has a system with no printers. While installing Document (bl8), he wondered if there had to be queues for the specified destinations. (The writers will process their files on this system and then ship them elsewhere for printing.) I said that the absence of queues should cause no problem, except for an occasional error message if the user forgot /noprint. Wishlist for V2 or so: decouple destination support (fonts, etc.) from queuing info, particularly during installation. This also applies to systems where a writer will use View for preview of the document, but never print to the ln01 device.

I think you can do that anyway, by specifying \exclude_action=(print) In an entry for a destination in DOC$DESTINATIONS.DAT pa | |||||

You have to have a destination on the DOCUMENT command line, and the only easy way to get one is to supply it at installation time. The queue name can be garbage as long as you always say /NOPRINT. By the time we get to V2, we'll probably have to redo the whole thing to accomodate everyone, so we'll check again, Karl. |
