391.0. "Double-sided documents anyone?" by JAWS::STRYKER (Stew Stryker) Tue May 19 1987 10:59

How about a qualifier option to generate two separate final output
files (say, LN03), where one file contains all the left-hand pages,
and the other, the right-hand. This would allow us to generate
    two-sided manuals.

The benefits? Reduced paper usage, increased frustration (when
we screw up the page ordering), and SMALLER MANUALS (my primary
    goal here).

Specs: Left-hand pages should be printed first. The file containing
the right-hand pages should hold the pages in reverse order. This
would mean that you only have to turn the paper stack over from the
printer output bin, and return it to the input bin. Otherwise,
you'd have to reshuffle all the pages to get the in the correct
    order (try it!).

    What do you think?

I don't recall the number, but another note in this conference proposed
exactly the same thing you have. Sounds like a great idea to me. What
priority does this have on the wishlist, I wonder?

nothing on the wishlist has a priority yet. I think that's what
the phase review process is for...

While I do it all the time (without any problems), I believe that
the LN03 documentation prohibits you on pain of violating your maintenance
contract from running pages through the machine multiple times.

391.4Do it, but don't yell if you have problems!NCADC1::PEREZThe sensitivity of a dung beetle.Wed May 27 1987 23:028
We run our software listings double-sided landscape on projects.
Field Service never threatened our maintenance contract, but they
weren't too sympathic when we had paper feed problems. Some brands
of paper we used worked great, others stunk!! They constantly wrinkled
and messed up. Unfortunately, the major offender is the paper they
    normally buy here!!!

 Re. -2:
What they also did not tell us and a few customers who bought
LN03's is that FS will charge an extra amount per page printed
that exceeds the number of sheets the LN03 was meant to print
   in that period.

Stating that this is around 3000/month (or was it weeks? - cannot
remember), if you did 6000 that month and called FS they also
   charged you (6000 - 3000) * a specific amount of money.

   Being a S/W specialist and not a marketing/FS person, I sympathize
with customers having to pay a sur-charge. It's like paying
double because your VAX has made 50 minutes of CPU time work too
   much this month...
