Yes, you can make changes (for now) in a doctype-specific file.
(I am working with people in the translation group in Reading to
get the data I need to do it automatically from a <language> tag.)
If you have the Base Level 6 Notes for System Users, Chapter 4
explains what is needed in a local doctype for non-English text
output. If not, let me know and I'll re-process that information.

370.2 | Need the procedure | OSLVS5::OLAV | Olav Tollefsen, TSSC, Norway | Thu May 14 1987 02:41 | 5 |
| I don't think I have the documentation you described. I have looked
in the "VAX DOCUMENT SYSTEM ADMINISTARTOR'S GUIDE", but couldn't
find it there.

370.3 | English default output text | IPG::SCHMITT | Georg Schmitt, IPG, Reading | Thu May 14 1987 07:43 | 4 |
| "VAX Document T1.0 Release Notes for Base Level 6 Users" (page 4-16
to 4-19) contains a Dutch example on how to replace English default
output text.
I copied this document from VAXUUM::USE3$:[SDML.BL7].

370.5 | \def\Prefacename{translation} does not work | OSLCSC::OLAV | Olav Tollefsen, TSSC, Norway | Thu May 14 1987 11:27 | 13 |
| I also tried to translate "Prefacename", but it didn't work. Here
is my .DTP file:
\input DOC$STANDARD_FORMATS:TAG$M_REFERENCE.DTP
\def\Prefacename{Innledning}
\def\Chaptername{Kapittel}
\hsize=6in
The "Chaptername" translation works.
Any hints?

370.6 | bug in TAG$M_GUIDE.DTP | CLOSET::ANKLAM | | Thu May 14 1987 18:00 | 14 |
|
That was one of the names that fell through the cracks in Base Level
7. It is fixed in Base Level 8. Meanwhile, you can correct
the file DOC$STANDARD_FORMATS:TAG$M_GUIDE.DTP. You can located where
the text is being output:
\block{0}Preface
and change this to \Prefacename.
sorry for the trouble.

370.7 | samples needed for debugging | CLOSET::ANKLAM | | Thu May 14 1987 18:28 | 10 |

Any European users who develop definitions for their languages
are very welcome to send their definitions to me. It will help me
to debug the internal mechanism for setting the correct set of
language strings automatically. I would also appreciate additional
sample source files, particularly some with index entries. (Note
that BL8 *does* support the multinational characters in the index.)
