Can you be more explicit on this? I thought at first glance that
it was simple to answer, but I don't understand what you mean
by 'the indexer wouldn't merge the entries'.
What BL was this in? The indexer in BL7 is smart about control
sequences like {\slash} and ignores them when collating.

| The next response will the the _INDEX.TEX file. You can run it through
(we used LAYERED) to see that the entries for "DEC/MAP" are not
merged (refer to the .LN3 file).
When I removed the line from TAG$$LOCAL_STRINGS that replaces the
/ with {\slash} and regenerated the index, the problem disappeared.

I was unable to reproduce this for a long time, but finally managed
to do so. This bug was fixed between BL7 and BL8.

356.8 | truncating page prefixes | DELNI::COLELLO | | Thu Aug 20 1987 14:59 | 19 |
| speaking of indexes and bugs, I an example of 2 parts that consist
of command references. Part I follows chapter 12 and Part II follows
Part I.
Chapters 1-12, Part I, Part II
In my Index, on page 1 of Part I, the page numbering is 13-1 instead
of a defined prefix. In the log file a warning:
IDX-W-TAGERR error processing the PREFIX tag on line 664 of the
INX file.
IDX-W-CUTPRFX The page prefix was truncated to : . processing continues
What's strange is that Part II has a page prefix but there were
no errors with it. Is this part of the same bug???
I'm running BL7
thanks,
Bette JEan

those problems were fixed in V1.0, but there is still a
character-string limit on prefixes for use in the Index
