320.0. "How do I indent text?" by NCADC1::PEREZ (Batches, we don't need no stinkin' batches) Thu Apr 30 1987 11:22
I haven't gotten any answer to this question in the DOCUMENT notes
conference so I'm posting it here also:
How do I get indented text in any/all of the doctypes. For example:
This is a paragraph of extremely boring information about some proj-
ect, product, dead person, old building, antiquated game, college
prank, worthless but overpriced piece of flotsam, review of a worth-
less rodent eating but overpriced rock star, etc, etc.
"This could be a quotation from some inane and probably
inaccurate dufus used by the author to attempt to justify
his falacious, specious, worthless, generally useless arg-
uments proving absolutely nothing."
This would then be the next paragraph covering the same topic.
The part in quotes is what we would like to do. We currently are
using it for the letter doctype, but would like to be able to put
it in any doctype. Both left and right margins would be indented,
and perhaps a different (not bold) font?
Thanks,
Dave

| Maybe try a <LIST>(SIMPLE) with a single list element, that being
the paragraph of text you want indented? You could use
<EMPHASIS>(...) to get a different font, if any of the choices
offered by <EMPHASIS> are appropriate.

| <sample_text> will provide something of what you want. Sample_Text,
though, is really a misnomer. Your sample suggests an extended
quotation. But <quotation> is already in use in the ARTICLE doctype.
You cannot get the commands that DSR[plus] provides: .lm+10.rm-10
and so on, unless you want to get into the doctype construction
business.

320.3 | maybe <note>() will do it | VAXUUM::KOHLBRENNER | | Thu Apr 30 1987 12:50 | 3 |
| In some doctypes, <note>() might do it. If you supply a
null argument, it probably suppresses the word NOTE. The
font that is chosen may or may not be acceptable.

I am bereft at having missed your response in the other notes file!
Thanks for the suggestions. The <SAMPLE_TEXT> does what we want.
I'll try the suggestion in .5.
