318.0. "how to reference Preface section?" by AUTHOR::WELLCOME (Steve) Wed Apr 29 1987 16:07

    I'm not sure how to cross-reference to a section in a Preface.
    I can put <HEADx> tags in the Preface and assign symbolic names
    to them, and refer to the symbolic names with <REFERENCE> tags,
    but in the Preface the header numbers assigned to <HEADx> tags
    don't appear in the final output. As a result, I get very nice
    "See Section 1" references, but there is nothing to tell the
    reader what section 1 is.

318.1A do-it-yourself reference?VAXUUM::KOHLBRENNERWed Apr 29 1987 16:115
    You probably have to write out the text of what you want:

    See <reference>(foo) in the Preface for an explanation of ...

    ???

    I'm trying

	    "...<REFERENCE>(symbol\TEXT) in the Preface..."
