276.0. "<FOOTNOTE> bug" by DECWET::KOSAK () Tue Apr 21 1987 11:24

    I found a small bug when using footnotes in a table. If a dollar
    sign is used with no space after it, the dollar sign and the character
    after it disappear on the output. If a space is left after the
    dollar sign the output looks "correct".

    GNC File			Output

    The cost is $150.00 ---->	The cost is 50.00

    The cost is $ 150.00 ---->	The cost is $ 150.00

    I was using the MEMO doctype.

276.1More than just footnotesCUPOLA::HAKKARAINENCrisis? What crisis?Tue Apr 21 1987 11:3010
    That's cuz the tag translator thinks that $150.00 is actually:

    	Argument#1 followed by 50.00

    Arguments to tags are numbered $1 to $9.

    A <literal>($)150.00 would also work, till the fix comes around.

    Note that this is a problem that appears only within arguments when
    a dollar sign is immediately followed by a number.
276.2$1 **SHOULD BE ** ok in any argumentVAXUUM::KOHLBRENNERTue Apr 21 1987 11:418
    Karl's explanation (.1) is correct, but that does not mean
    that you have to be careful never to put a $1 in an argument!

    There are plenty of tags that do not attempt to "interpret"
    the $1 in their arguments and therefore will present no
    problem in this respect...

    Be sure to report all such bugs, however, so we can fix 'em.
