238.1 | Simple lists with arguments?? | COOKIE::JOHNSTON | | Fri Apr 10 1987 16:27 | 4 |
| I'm glad someone else finally brought this up. How about offering a simple list
that takes attributes so that you can have single spaced lists?

| perhaps .1 should be restated? <LIST>(SIMPLE) is single spaced,
at least in our doctypes.

I think I understand the problem. There are a few other such
items on the list-control enhancements for the wish-list (i.e.
don't space between items in numbered/unnumbered lists).

238.4 | A NEW addition to wish list | AUTHOR::R_MCGOWAN | | Mon Apr 13 1987 10:25 | 14 |
| My problem is NOT spacing between items in a numbered list.
My problem IS skipping lines before a numbered list begins
and after the list finishes.
Since the <table_row> tag automatically skips a line before and
after its row, SEVERAL extra lines are skipped before and after
a row in the table if a list begins or ends a row.
I have a 165-page table (an error message manual) with many rows
that indicate more than one error condition or more than one way
of responding to the error condition. Unless I painstakingly
number each list myself, the rows with lists are not evenly spaced
with the rows that have no lists.

238.5 | NOTE seems to suffer the same fate | ATLAST::BOUKNIGHT | Everything has an outline | Mon Apr 13 1987 11:26 | 7 |
| This same spacing problem also seems to affect the NOTE tag. My
notes in SOFTWARE.REFERENCE have this really noticable extra white
space of at least one and maybe two blank lines, making the note
stand out awkwardly. I compared it against the same input and doctype
in BL09-06 and it was properly output with no extra lines there.

I think I understood the problem with lists inside table rows, what
I meant was that in order to do it correctly, you would have to
specify somehow, that no space was required in front of the list.
<table_row>(first column\<list>(numbered)
<le> list item for second column)
I assume you want to suppress the vertical skip in front of this
<list>. To do this, you would need a way to distinguish this
<list> from other lists in front of which you normally want the
space. Since there have been other requests for control over the
space before a list, I thought a simple NOSPACE or somesuch option
would satisfy in all cases.
If this is not what you meant, I need more information.
Jack, I'm not sure about the <note> output. This may be an oversight/
I'll check.

238.7 | a yes for <nospace> | AUTHOR::R_MCGOWAN | | Mon Apr 13 1987 16:22 | 5 |
| The <nospace> tag sounds perfect. It's just what I could use.
Or else, some kind of an argument to a list that would do the
same thing as the <nospace> tag.

238.8 | .2 Restated | COOKIE::JOHNSTON | | Mon Apr 13 1987 19:31 | 16 |
| RE: .2
Yes, I'll restate it. What I meant was that I would like to have
single-spaced and bulleted (or hyphenated or numbered or...).
