232.0. "DOCUMENT TO .MEM" by IKE::HOUSEMAN () Thu Apr 09 1987 14:17

We have a legitimate need for the equivalant of .MEM files from
the DOCUMENT files or for a way to translate the tables into a format
compatible with WPS. We are presently committed to using DECPage
and therefore WPS and we have developed a crude translation program
to convert DOCUMENT to RNO. We get a reasonable file for everything
except the tables. I have contacted the WPSPLUS notes file and have
not received and guidance. All positive responses are appreciated.

    Talk about convolution .....

If DECpage had a published "language spec" of its tags, I could
solve your problem the right way, with OUTLINE. OUTLINE is a
structured organizer that allows creation/editing of information
followed by a selection of a whole range of output options. We
output to just about everything EXCEPT DECpage.

What WPS-PLUS does not provide people with is structure in the
document. This is becoming the next important factor in front-end
utilities, and forces the WPS-PLUS user to adhere to non-obvious
"techniques" to put the "structure" into the document so that the
paginator DECpage (or DOCUMENT if that were the case) could process
    it.

Do you want a "flat" file (i.e. with no overstriking or underlining)?
In that case, specify MAIL as the destination, and you'll get it.
Alternatively, LINE will give you overstriking and underlining, though not
in exactly the same sequence as a .MEM file does.

The problem we have in transferring files is that with WPS you can
only have one wrap on a ruler. Therefore any table that has wrap
in any but the last column does not transfer properly. Each such
entry has to be reconstructed in WPS - a tedious process. Rulers
    are restrictive.
