116.0. "Doctype Descriptions" by TOPDOC::GREENBERG () Mon Mar 16 1987 14:45

    Can anyone direct me to where I might find a full description of
    all doctypes and their parameters such as page size and relevant
    tags?

    There is such a document for version .9-05 called DOCUMENT Doctypes
    and Templates (Standard Designs). Has this been updated for version
    1?

    Thank you

116.1Sure! Look in the field test docset.VAXUUM::CORMANTue Mar 17 1987 09:3213
    There are currently two books that you should look at to get info.
    on the various doctype styles. The first is the VAX DOCUMENT Design
    Samples, which explains each doctype, shows a sample output of each,
    and then shows the input file (with all the tags) used to produce
    each sample.
    The second book is the VAX DOCUMENT User's Guide, Part 2. This book
    describes each doctype in detail, listing the available tags for
    each. It has a complete alphabetic list of the doctype-specific
    tags for reference.
    Both of these books were released for Field Test (BL7), and are
    being updated for the *real* release of the product (that is, Version
    1).

    Thanks! I looked around a bit and found a documentation directory:

    NEWDOC::[SDML.BL7] The reference to this requested access only
    from 17:00 to 09:00, and that you read A.READ_ME_FIRST first.

    Thanks again.

116.3Is it written in invisible ink?COSBY::ROMBERGKathy Romberg DTN 276-8189Thu Mar 19 1987 09:599
	 I found all the books in this directory except for VAX DOCUMENT
     Design Samples. Where does this book exist? A.READ_ME_FIRST doesn't
     even mention it.

	 There's also another book mentioned in the release notes - VAX
     DOCUMENT Doctype Designer's Guide. No could find.

    The design samples book is available in limited supply, hard-copy
    only. Send MAIL to VAXUUM::OTTE if you have a real need. We'll try
    to put it online, but havent' the time for it now (It's hard to
    make into 1 LN3 file because each chapter uses a different doctype!)

    The Administrator's Guide describes all the design parameters for
    each of the standard doctypes.

116.5They're coming shortly.VAXUUM::CORMANFri Mar 20 1987 09:1513
    Well, I guess A.READ_ME_FIRST should explain that the Design Samples
    book is not available online. The best way to get a copy of it (inside
    DEC) is to contact Pat Goodine (STAR::GOODINE)... she has some
    hardcopies available for the asking. This book will probably be
    made available online for Version 1 (I hope...what a drag to deal
    in paper :-] ).

    As far as the VAX DOCUMENT Doctype Designer's Guide...I wasn't aware
    that it was mentioned in the release notes (can you point to the
    page?). This is actually the new name for the old Administrator's
    Guide, which came with the FT docset. The new name is more appropriate
    for the book. It is also being updated for V.1; is not available
    in its new form just yet.

    By trial, error, and ELF, I determined that Pat Goodine is actually
    at BAXTER::GOODINE, rather than STAR::GOODINE as listed.
116.7<DOCTYPE> ListTOPDOC::GREENBERGFri Mar 27 1987 13:3810

    Thank you all for your help.

    I have also found an abbreviated list on pages 13-45 and 13-46 of the
    User's Guide, Part 1. The tables on these pages describe the <DOCTYPE>
    tag and list in summary the characteristics of the various doctypes.
    Very good info.

116.8Could we get the pieces on-line?LOGOS::GREGOIREPhyllis Gregoire-MarksWed Apr 15 1987 13:187
    In reply to Patti in .4: Could the separate chapters be made available
    in LN3 form? That way we get it on-line and you guys would have
    less paper shuffling to do.

    Thanks,
    Phyllis
