97.0. "How to handle long chapter names?" by COOKIE::JOHNSTON () Thu Mar 12 1987 15:20
A chapter I am writing is titled similar to the following:
Database Widget And Database Whatsit Performance Estimates
This is a long name that in both the text and the table of contents
spreads across the page on a single line rather than wrapping neatly
after some number of characters. It could be acceptable in the text,
though not optimal. In the TOC, though, it looks like this:
Chapter 1 Database Widget And Database Whatsit Performance Estimates
1-1
Uggh. Is this behavior doctype specific? If it is, how do I fix it in
the DOC$TOOLS files? I am using software.specification.
Is it desirable to allow two-level chapter names, similar to title names
if auto wrap isn't possible?
I am in favor of short titles; this is not a typical case. I could do
something like change the name to Db Widget And Db Whatsit, but there
will no doubt be other cases in the future that are not handled so
easily, for myself or other users.
Thanx for any help you can give.

We will be correcting the table of contents output to make the
line wrapping in the tables of contents better. This should all
be in the FT update.
