74.0. "Wishlist for next version..." by FNYFS::WYNFORD (The Rented Loony) Mon Mar 09 1987 03:17

I've looked through the directory and could see no reference to
a wish-list so I'll be rotten and start one!

Could you place all country-specific references into an
easily-modifiable file so that those of us who do not have the good
fortune to live in the USA have a little less modification to do
before we use DOCUMENT seriously? By this, I mean all references
to "Printed in USA" and so on which are scattered throughout a large
number of files - this information (I would have thought) should
be in one file which is altered as part of the start-up/installation
    process.

    Thanks,

    Gavin

74.1A4 Paper ?SHIRE::ZGRAGGENSearching for infinity...Mon Mar 09 1987 04:234
Will we be getting support for A4 paper size? For example,
    document types SOFTWARE.A4, MEMO.A4 etc.

We *are* isolating all specific text output (as well as error messages)
into separate files...I thought I had them all, but neglected to
check the front matter things, so I'm glad you brought this up (.1).
Please let me know if there are any more (Chapter 4 of the Internal
Users Release Notes lists all that we have done so far, so if there's
something you need that's not described there, please let me know.)

We are also working on the A4 issue. We expect to have all the internal
hooks for A4 done by the field test update. This will allow work
on the designs (which can be done externally to DOCUMENT) to get
done afterwards. What we propose is not to tie the designs to doctypes
per se, but to have a /PAPER_SIZE qualifier, and a way for a DTP
file to determine the paper size from the command line and make
the suitable adjustments (or write an error message if it can't
    be done).

The FT update is targeted for mid-April.
