    Do you have a logical name, such as PRODUCT_SPECIFICATION, that
    points to that directory or file?  It seems likely that TeX or some other
    component may be using some system service to translate logical
    names and that the way in which this service is used at that point
    differs from the way other components resolve names.

	Well, the problem is real simple: TEX refuses to accept
	anglebrackets. If you change your default directory to
	"[]" instead of using "<>"-pairs then everything will
	work.
