40.0. "Installation fails" by PAULUS::FRANKE () Mon Mar 02 1987 06:20

	On a full installation (support for LSE, LPR, LN03),
	the procedure fails when restoring saveset C.

	The procedure complains that the following files
	already exist and are not superseded:

	------------------------------------
	RMS-E-FEX, file already exists, not superseded
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMEX10.TFM
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMR10.TFM
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMR6.TFM
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMR7.TFM
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMR8.TFM
	VMI$ROOT:[SYSUPD.DOC010]AMR9.TFM
        -----------------------------------

	What is the fix?

40.1Only one printer installed at a timeATLAST::BOUKNIGHTEverything has an outlineMon Mar 02 1987 10:1712
    As has been mentioned before in this notes file, is written up in
    the installation guide, and was clearly stated in Patti's announcement,

    	YOU CAN NOT INSTALL MORE THAN ONE PRINTER AT A TIME WITH FT1.0.

    RTFM!

    Do the full installation for LSE and LPR. THEN go back and do a
    partial installation for JUST LN03. Do this for EACH of the other
    printers you want installed.

    I have experienced the same failure - yes I read the FM but I do
    not have LSE installed and I do not have any printer other than
    an LN03 - so I can not run the IVP?

40.3you can run it afterCLOSET::ANKLAMMon Mar 30 1987 18:524

    the installation guide explains how to run the IVP after having
    installed LN03 support in a partial installation, pp. 15 and 16

40.4Manual running of IVPBUFFER::LEEDBERGTruth is Beauty, Beauty is TruthTue Mar 31 1987 11:3514

    The wording in the paragraph on the bottom of p15 is awkward and
    should be in a NOTE for the Internal Field Test release.

    I am installing on a uVAX that does not have any printers directly
    connected to it.

    The manual running of the IVP seems to have worked.

    Thanks,

40.5Device Conversion failure?ATPS::DEMERSLeo DemersThu May 14 1987 12:4519
  The installation failed for me during the IVP while doing a Full Document
  install with only the SDML and LINE_PRINTER options selected. I am using
  the savesets from VAXUUM::KITS_:[DOCUMENT.UPDATE]
   The first time I tried it I ran into a problem with the old DOC$ROOT
  not being DEFINED/EXEC I deleted it and Reinstalled it but the IVP still
  failes in the Device conversion. Did I copy over the correct savesets? Am
  I missing something in the installation guide? - Leo

    The LINE destination does not work with /CONTENTS.
    I believe that is documented in the release_notes.

    The IVP tries to do /CONTENTS reagardless of the
    destination that you specify, so it ALWAYS "fails"
    if you specify LINE as the destination.

    The important point: You got a good installation if
    you got to the point of that failure.

    Naturally, we'll clean up this part of the act before
    the opening night performance.
