Hi Steve ! I was talking to Mars at Ever Ready, and he and Monsanto
were looking to get together with a few others to have Rdb internals
taught onsite.
How about showing the customers DSNlink? Its an electronic way to get
into the CSC, and the wealth of knowledge is stupendous.
And, how about explaining the decision making process in DBS
Engineering, you know, how customers can get things on the wish agenda.
Show em the rdb users magazine, the RSVP catalog, etc, make the point
Rdb is more than a 'digital' product, that its the bedrock for a lot of
third parties as well. Assemble a list of rdb consultants in the US and
pass it around.

I have a database performance sig at my customer site. Each
meeting starts with a slide reminding people about sound database
backup procedures (VMS backup: not !; use AIJs; read about, under-
stand, and use RMU/BACKUP; and most important: do a test RESTORE).
I then have 30-60 minutes talks on various topics including
backup, database parameters, etc. or review the latest DECUS
presentations, significant new features I digest from the release
notes, etc. and/or do things like show the Database Tools video
or "Educating Peter."
