1257.0. "Gupta to Rdb.....again" by KYOA::HANSON (I'm tired of typing!) Wed Jun 09 1993 22:12
Here in NJ, we're working on a key opportunity that involves Verity
TOPIC clients on MS-Windows, and the architecture called for Rdb
w/SQLMM to support optical disks on a VAX. Well, things change.
We found an integrator who can provide virtually all of the
functionality that we need - beyond Verity's search and retrieval
engine - for scanning, printing, OCR, etc. However, their application
is written in Gupta SQLwindows, and it's talking to, I believe, a Gupta
database on a PC server. Big problem is that the Gupta stuff is
running off of Novell IPX. Based on our configuration and proposal,
we'd like the integrator to have their application "talk" to Rdb.
But from what I can tell, Gupta SQLwindows *still* doesn't use
SQL/Services. Oracle and Sybase are NOT an option, even though
SQLwindows can talk to either of those databases.
Questions are: Does Gupta now support Rdb via SQL/Services, or not?
Has anyone done anything like this recently? Would Sequelink from
Techgnosis bridge the gap between Rdb and SQLwindows? Any experience
with Techgnosis?
Any input - especially positive - would be most appreciated!

| Did you try asking Gupta?
I would have thought that they would be the ones most likely to give you accurate
and timely information.
