1256.0. "Adabas access from OpenVMS VAX?" by KYOA::KOCH (It never hurts to ask...) Mon Jun 07 1993 21:33

I am looking for a product to access an Adabas DB on an MVS system in
real time from a VAX. I will be using Rdb on the VAX, but need to pull
data from the MVS Adabas system. Any ideas?

I believe Software AG Does have Remote Access from VAX/VMS to ADABAS on MVS.
What you need is a component called ADANET (I'm not sure about the name) that
allows VMS programs to read and write directly to the Mainframe database.

You may check new EDA/SQL product which belongs to Rdb access group of products,
I think that ADABAS is one of the 40+ databases you can access by this tool.

1256.2Net-work is the productBIRMVX::DENTIan Dent @NOT, Nottingham, UKWed Jun 16 1993 11:1618
Software AG sell products that run on the Vax and communicate with the
IBM through (for example) an SNA Gateway. These are all part of the
    Net-work family.

You must buy Net-work for VMS plus an appropriate driver (e.g. Net-work
    for SNA Gateway).

This then allows you to write 3GL programs on the Vax that issue calls
to the IBM database (or to a local Adabas database on the Vax).

If 3GL programs are not wanted then you can use Natural (VMS) -
Software Ag's 4GL. This can read/write to Rdb and Adabas (MVS) within
the same program using the Net-work products.

I believe EDA/SQL supports Adabas but would be very slow to use if real
    time response is needed.
