1240.0. "ORACLE: How control quatas at upstart ?" by COPCLU::JEPPE () Wed Mar 10 1993 15:08

A customer recently had a problem with the ORACLE V6.0 database on a
    VAX 6410.

Together with their Oracle Support person, they found that BYTLM was too
low on the ORACLE account, and modified it in the UAF. They still got
problems, and called Digital because some microcode had been upgraded,
and they thought this might be the problem (which it was not).

After sometime we found that the the Oracle processes quotas, did not
come from the UAF, nor from the PQL-parameters. Some of them was defined
as ORA-'something' logicals in an Oracle-upstart comfile, for instance
BYTLM, but others could not be adjusted: BIOLM was 4 (sh proc/quo), and we
couldn't find any way to adjust them.

The Oracle Support person was NOT able to tell where this quotas was
defined. It looks like they are hardcode into some Oracle upstart-image.
    Could anyone tell me ?

    Niels,

I wound send mail to Scott Foote at Oracle ([email protected]). If
you don't know how to send an Internet mail message, let me know.

Another possibility is the Oracle on UNIX conference. They supposedly
talk VMS and UNIX in there.

I just went to third party DB training hosted by the NY Production
    Resource Training which was excellent.

Scott was the Oracle presenter and is an ex-DECie who is the Digital
liason. He is very knowledgeable about VMS performance and Oracle.
He would be glad to help you.
