1232.0. "limitation of PC LAN-based DB servers" by SIERAS::PARK () Mon Feb 22 1993 20:29

I need an article that compares the PC LAN-based database products vs Rdb (or
any database products that runs on mimi+ computer.) A customer wants to know
whether a Novell/Foxbase-based healthcare application with a 486 database
engine will be adequate to support 40 to 60 users. They would like to see
a study (preferrably written by 3rd party independent expert) that discusses
the capacity limit of PC LAN-based database servers.

I would appreciate if some gives me a pointer to any related info, asap.

    Dale,

    My guess is that there would be significant problems with 40-60
    concurrent users on a PC. I would think that the scare resources would
    be memory and disk I/O. For the number of users, locking and security
    would also be issues resulting from running this application on a PC.

    Sounds like a job for Rdb and ACMS! Does this customer consider this
    application mission critical or bet your business?
