1211.0. "Help on RFP" by TAV02::ARIE_L (Arie Levy) Mon Dec 07 1992 15:31
We are at the beginning of preparation our proposal as an answer to an "heavy"
RFP. We are looking for information that might help us decide on our
solution's concept and architecture.
The Customer is the Israeli Ministry of the Interior.
The applications are: Population Registration System, Elections Control
System and few other related systems.
All of the Ministry's Applications running today on IBM MF/CICS/IMS DB.
The RFP is for Out-sourcing for a time frame of 7 years.
Total direct value of the project is $5M-$10M.
We are about 5M inhabitants in this small country. 10GB data volume is
expected.
The system will have about 800 O-L users in 40 remote locations, running
12 TPS (15-20 LIO/Tran). Peak time is election day, in which transaction
rate will be up to 50% higher.
We've identified the following main alternatives:
VT Solution:
Alpha/OpenVMS - ACMS/Rdb/DECforms - DECadmire as 4GL.
PC Solution:
Alpha/OpenVMS - ACMS/Rdb/Desktop ACMS - TFM as 4GL for MS-windows
Foreign Solution:
Alpha/OpenVMS - Oracle or INGRES or Sybase ...
UNIX Solution:
Alpha/OSF - Oracle or INGRES or INFORMIX or Sybase ...
Our questions:
a. Do we have customers running similar applications (Election and/or
population registration ) on any of those Hardware and Software platforms?
Details and contacts will be appreciated.
b. Does Oracle on UNIX or OpenVMS, without a TP monitor, might be a solution for
this application (800 Users, single DB 10GB, 12 TPS)?
Does anyone know of an application of this size running on Oracle?
Oracle is a generic name for any popular RDBMS.
c. Does anyone Know of ACMS/Rdb "Production System" with 700+ users and 8GB+
central DB?
Answers to those questions, and any other suggestions, tips and hints that
could help us choose the correct solution will be accepted gratefully.
(I've posted it in IM_PARTNERS, ACMS, Rdb_VMS_COMPETITION and Oracle_on_UNIX)
Thanks in Advance
Arie Levy
