Subj:	DEC Rdb passes FIPS 127-1 NIST conformance tests with perfect scores

    The NAS SQL engineering team is proud to announce that DIGITAL has
    passed the FIPS 127-1 NIST V3.0 SQL Test Suite with a perfect score
    on four platforms:

	o   Rdb/VMS V4.1 on VMS V5.4-3
	o   Rdb/VMS V4.1 on VMS V5.5-2
	o   Rdb/VMS V4.2 on VMS V5.4-3
	o   Rdb/VMS V4.2 on VMS V5.5-2

    FIPS 127-1 is a Federal information processing standard based on
    ANSI-standards that provides minimum standard for the U.S. Government
    procurement of SQL database systems.  The National Institute of
    Standards and Technology, NIST, measures conformance to FIPS 127-1
    using an extensive test suite.  It is expected that in the next year
    100% conformance to this FIPS standard will be required to bid on U.S.
    Government contracts involving a database system.

    Last week, Karen McGinn from NAS SQL engineering ran the complete test
    suite on all four platforms without a single failure under the watchful
    eye of a NIST representative.  The testing process involved running
    tests 24 hours a day for the full week totaling over 20,000 SQL tests.

    DIGITAL is the first and only vendor to pass 100% of all the tests
    written by NIST covering all programming interfaces and all options of
    the FIPS 127-1 standard.  While not official until certificates are
    published by NIST in early 1993, DIGITAL is expected to receive
    certificates for the four above platforms along with an additional
    certificate running on OpenVMS Alpha AXP when that certification
    testing is performed later this year.
