1180.0. "ORACLE on DSSI cluster of 4000" by TKOV51::G_TANAKA (Gen Tanaka, Tokyo,JAPAN) Wed Aug 12 1992 09:20

    I have a prospect who wants to run ORACLE on DSSI cluster of VAX4000.
    (Now they are running on CI cluster of VAX 6000)
    Does anyone has any experience with DSSI cluster? Such configuration is
    available?  What's about performance?
    Oracle Japan said they have no experience on DSSI cluster in Japan.
    Oracle's version is 6.2 and VMS is V5.5.

    Thank you for your help.

1180.1Yes, DSSI clusters are available for 4000 seriesTPSYS::SHAHAmitabh Shah - Just say NO to decaf.Wed Aug 12 1992 20:0312
	DSSI clustering is possible for the VAX 4000 class machines.
	We have already published TPC-A numbers for 2-node and 3-node
	DSSI clusters for VAX 4000-300 and 2-node cluster for VAX 4000-500.

	About performance:

	Approximate 2-node scaling is in the 82-84% range, while the 3-node
	scaling is 79%. I don't think that the scaling with CI clusters
	would be as good, but I don't have specific numbers, nor likely to
	have in future either.

    Amitaph,
    were did you publish the performance figures you mentioned in .-1.
    I am interested to know more about your expirience. The basic
    question for me is, is it effecient for a typical business applicatiobn
    like Finance to introduce a cluster (70% reading 30% writing). Will
    performance degrade a lot when wriing to the DB.
