1164.0. "PROGRESS and two phase commit" by TLAVC::ROSARA (SA-WAD-DEE KAH....SWS Thailand) Fri Jun 12 1992 16:16

We are proposing a manufacturing package, VARNET to our customer. This VARNET
will be running on VAX machine and using PROGRESS db as an engine. According to
the customer's requirement, there will be several of PROGRESS databases
located in several sites, each of which has connected via remote dial up.

Our question which is customer's concern is whether PROGRESS database supports
the distributed transaction and whether it employs the two phase commit like
that of the Rdb.

Any kind of info is greatly appreciated.

1164.12-phase commit is yesMRKTNG::SILVERBERGMark Silverberg DTN 264-2269 TTB1-5/B3Fri Jun 12 1992 20:4313
    from a recent analysis:

    "The Progress database is based on a multi-threaded, client/server
    architecture to optimize performance. Key RDBMS features include:
    automatic database roll-back recovery, on-line backups, after-image
    journal files, distributed databases using two-phase commit, database
    location independence and multiple database servers for load
    balancing."

    Guess the answer is yes.
