This may or may not be the right place to ask this - but if not maybe someone could point me in the right direction. I'm trying to find out some information to assist a sale of a DEC RISC solution to replace a customer's ICL UNIX/INGRES installation. The customer is running a database 'accelerator' called SCAFFS which enables rapid access to INGRES databases - I need more information about SCAFFS - what is it? what does it do? how good is it? can we provide an alternative? Thanks Caroline

Do you mean CAFS (Content Addressable File Store)? This is a kind of search accelerator, allowing hardware speed searches over large disk farms. It is found on ICLs mainframe systems (series 39), and, I believe, is now given away as a freebie. The last time I looked, it could not be used with Ingres. There used to be an ICL conference; if I can find it I'll post a reference to it. Cheers PDB | |||||

We've talked with ICL about their database accelerator which uses a combo of sw/drivers and a hw board. It's available first for the Ingres db (a no brainer), and then Informix and others as the ICL negotiations move forward. Mark UNIX DB Marketing |
