I am trying to respond to an RFP which requires an NIST FIPS 127-1
compliant relational database on a UNIX platform. This is my
understanding of the popular RDBMS and their compliance.
RDBMS Compliant Release Date
Oracle V7.0 Y September '92 - may slip
Sybase N Far from compliant
Ingres 6.5 Y at least a year out
Informix 4.10 Y (but not on DEC ULTRIX)
Is this information correct as far as everyone else knows? Our
competition on this includes IBM and HP. What RDBMS will they be
recommending?
If no one else can recommend a RDBMS which runs on UNIX that meets the
FIPS 127-1 compliant requirement, then we are going to ask them to
change their requirement.
Thanks for any suggestions.

A further clarification is the that the RDBMS complies with ANSI
X3.135-1989, Database Language SQL? How does SQL '89 compare with FIPS
127-1? Is Rdb compliant with both?
It sure will be nice when we can bid our own RDBMS on the UNIX platform.
Thanks,
Patti
