1124.0. "Rdb database capacity limitation questions" by ZPOVC::MICHAELLEE () Mon Mar 30 1992 08:34

    Hi:

    The following info. is required in a tender for a DBMS. We would like
    to propose Rdb/VMS.

    1 Max databases spanned by one update -
    2 Max databases opended by one query -
    3   Max tables in a join                -
    4 Max databases per server -
    5   Max database size                   -
    6 Max tables per database -
    7 Max columns per table -
    8 Max indices per table -
    9 Max rows per table -
    10 Max columns per composite index -
    11 Max indexed column size -
    12  Max column size                     -
    13  Max row size                        -
    14 Max characters per database object name -

    Appr if someone can point me to a note/query which has the answers to
    the above questions.

    Thks in advance,
    Mike

1124.1That's from Sybase, right?SUOSW3::KAISERWho will stay...?Mon Mar 30 1992 14:547
Hey, are you competing with Sybase? I have a Sybase marketing flyer in front of
me. On the last page there is a table with numbers and limitations concerning
the database and the tables. Your list of question does match this table
exactly. Even the order is the same! But if you read the SPD and the Rdb doc
set you will see that Rdb will be better in most questions.

1124.2SYBASE...?...maybe..ZPOVC::MICHAELLEETue Mar 31 1992 05:2214

    Not sure whether Sybase is in the picture yet. Its an RFI docyument
    which we need to submit to the customer by end April in order to at
    least 'qualify' for the tender proposal stage which comes after April.

    I suppose the cust. has to make use of someone else's DBMS limitations
    as a means of comparison. The problem with the Rdb spd is that it lacks
    most of the numbers that are requested. Any document/source where I
    could refer to for those numbers?

    Thks again,

    Mike
