1113.0. "VMS/Informix file corruption" by ZPOVC::QCAV02::GSGIRI () Wed Mar 18 1992 12:19

One of our customers is running Informix 3.10 on VMS 4.7.

For a long time, he has been experienceing file corruption
problems. It is only the Informix data files (and index files)
that are being corrupted. Even though we are confident that
there are no problems in hardware or VMS, we are unable to
convince our customer. Unfortunately, there is no Informix here in
India, either directly or thru' representatives. (There used to
be a local representative, but not any more).

We have been strongly advocating conversion to another platform.
But the customer is not intertested until the existing problems
are solved. There is also another danger. If he is willing to
commit resources for conversion, there is a strong chance that
he will go the IBM way.

I want to know if anybody has used this version of Informix and
had similar problems. Is there any way of accesing the Informix
people? This version uses the Informix database and not Rdb.
Is it true that in Ingres, if files are not closed properly,
then files are corrupted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From other entries I found that Informix is not supported on VMS
anymore. Can anyone suggest alternative conversion paths and which
ones are better? Please note there in no support for Informix in
	India.

	Thanks in advance,

	Sampath.

You haven't got a third party file defragmenter running have you? This
can do unspeakable things to relational databases.

    Just a thought.

There is no defrag. software. Except foInformix and VAX-C, there is no
    other software on the system.
