1086.0. "Kudos for Rdb in Benelux" by IJSAPL::WOODROW (From E101 to VAX and beyond...) Mon Feb 10 1992 16:57
I thought people might like to know that the latest issue of Computable
(Feb. 7) had a very good "review" of Rdb V4.0. Computable is a very popular
controlled-distribution weekly newspaper in the Benelux.
The article reported on an investigation undertaken by Moret Ernst & Young
management consultants into the aspects of the following databases:
Adabas V5.2
CA-Datacom/DB V8
CA-DB/VAX V1.5
DB2 V2.2
Ingres V6.4
Oracle V6
Rdb V4
Supra V2.1
SQL/DS V3.2
Sybase V5
Charts displayed the "ratings" for database integrity, referential
integrity, database version control and distributed capabilities.
Only in the latter category did Rdb score average (scores were "-", "0"
and "+"), probably because vertical distribution is not available;
all others were "+". NO other investigated database system scored
as high!, although CA-Datacom/DB and Ingres scored a "+" for distributed.
Furthermore, Oracle V6 scored "-" in all four categories. Even DB2
scored 3 "-" and one "+" (referential integrity).
This was a 6-column article on the front page of section II.
