1071.0. "TPC-C Public Review" by TPSYS::SHAH (Amitabh Shah - Just say NO to decaf.) Wed Jan 22 1992 18:06

As you probably know, the new TPC benchmark, TPC-C (Order-Entry) is
undergoing a public review. This is when the draft of the spec. is
	released to public for comment.

I am coordinating the Public Review within Digital. If you are
interested in reviewing the latest draft of the specification, please
send me a mail (at santur::shah, or [email protected]). Beware
however, that the specification is more than 100 pages long, and is
intended for a serious reader, who will commit the time to read it and
	send comments.

If you can not make that kind of commitment, but are still interested
in knowing more about TPC-C, I have a short (10-page) overview paper,
written by Walt Kohler, Francois Raab, and myself, that will give you
the gist of the benchmark, and tell you how it compares to TPC-A. Send
me mail if you are interested. If you have access to an Ultrix machine,
I can send you the PostScript version of the paper (unfortunately, this
version does not print off a VMS machine, in spite of being PS) by
e-mail. Else, I will send you a hardcopy.

Please also include your mailstop when requesting a hardcopy.

At the suggestion of Albert Godfrind, I have put a copy of the overview
	paper in:

	tpsys::disk$user6:[shah.public]tpcc_overview.ps

Again, a warning. I could not print this file from a VMS machine, but
could from an Ultrix machine. I was able to preview it using the CDA
previewer on either. If you can not print this, let me know, and I will
	send you a hard-copy.

I would appreciate comments on the benchmark design, and how it compares
with TPC-A, which the former is likely to replace.

	It should be unprotected.
