People know what is going on.

1045.3 | Because VSS is in the hardware business! | COOKIE::BERENSON | Lex mala, lex nulla | Fri Dec 20 1991 18:09 | 11 |
| It is most likely that every database vendor of any significance will
have their system running on ALPHA at FRS. As a database engineer at
Digital I wish we could have a lead on the 3rd parties. But, as a
Digital employee and stockholder I'm quite happy about it. No better way
to make sure ALPHA succeeds than to have all the key software being used
on VAX/VMS available on it from day 1!!!
Now, of course, ORACLE will do a better job at marketing the fact that
they are on ALPHA from day 1 than we will. THAT is what bothers me.

| I mean both. No offense to the NAS Marketing folks, but ORACLE will go
way beyond advertising to let people know they are somehow better than
us. They'll be able to say things to their customers that our hierarchy
will never let us say, or dispute for that matter.

"Mr. Ellison, wasn't that a lie?"
"No, Mr. customer....an error."

1045.7 | Oracle has fallen from grace | BROKE::THOMAS | Anne Thomas DTN 264-6094 | Tue Apr 07 1992 00:52 | 3 |
| I've heard from an insider on the alpha project that Bill Demmer
requested that they not talk to Oracle for the moment. It seems
that Bill was a bit annoyed by recent advertisements.
