1044.0. "INFO DBmagic, help?????" by OGWANI::FUJIWARA () Thu Dec 19 1991 09:21

	Hello. My name is TAKESHI FUJIWARA.
	I entered DEC/JAPAN 7 months ago.
	I study computer and English everyday.
	Please remember me.

	Well, I have one question. My customer is undecided as to which DB
	to adopt, Rdb/VMS or DBmagic. DBmagic is software to make a database.
	I heard that it was developed in Israeli and it can make a database
	without writing programing.

	Is there anyone out of the field who knows DB?
	Please teach me.

	Best regards,

1044.1Looks like might be a HP targetted productJENEVR::RLEEFri Dec 20 1991 07:0919
    Gee - usually the best thing with questions like that is to contact the
    Competitive Marketing Library at MRO2 via email...

    Here's the scoop as noted in Data_Sources, SOFTWARE/1st Edition 1991:

    DBMagic - sold by ADVANCED MICROSOLUTIONS

    Address: 3817 Windover Dr., Edmond, Oklahoma, USA 73013
    Phone:    800-284-3381

    Target:   HP 9000 Series 200, 300, Vectra PC-compatibles
    Source code:  HP BASIC

    It's a relational database manager for windowed environment - probably
    HP/NewWave. "Nonprocedural 4GL" supports unlimited database and table
    sizes [on a PC? - hah! Believe it when I see it.]

    Uses AMS Human Interface System - (HIS) - object-oriented development
    system for user interfaces.
1044.2The real Israeli productTAVIS::LANDAUIS IsraelSun Dec 29 1991 10:5815
            *Magic* is a very popular database and application generator
            for the MSDOS Israeli market. It may be the same as the
            HP-based product mentioned in .1, but it certainly works on any
            Intel based little machine.

            In the last year its developers have released also a VAX/VMS
            version, and a Digital-SCO version is expected very soon.

            The developers are MSE (Mashov Software Engineering or
            something like that) from Tel-Aviv.
            Their phone number is 972-3-751-6218, and FAX 972-3-751-6218.

            I haven't used it by myself, but people who did are very
            enthusiastic. Here it is a tough competitor for Rally.

1044.4How is life in Atlanta? Can I help on Magic?IJSAPL::OLTHOFHenny Olthof@UTO, 838-2021Tue May 25 1993 10:497
    Lars,

    I have a meeting this Friday with Magic. Is there anything in
    particular that you want me to ask?

    Cheers,
    Henny
1044.5Atlanta is OK - but I miss VBO, and all you guys!DBSALF::FOLDEVIUnisys Migrations - dtn 343-2368Wed May 26 1993 17:1316
 Henny,
	I'd like to know how it supports a heterogeneous environment (Unix,
 VMS, PCs), and which dbms's it supports and how. Is it a generator or a
 run-time environment? What about non-relational - I'm thinking of DBMS?
 Something about prices would be useful. The basic stuff.

 If you can get some number of US installations (and worldwide).

 Thanks for your excellent sense of timing - looking forward to the feedback.

 And I hope to see you in July at the workshop!

 Cheers,

 - Lars
