1005.0. "Rdb World is Here..." by NOVA::VOELKER () Tue Oct 15 1991 18:52

The first issue of Rdb World came out on October 1 and has generated
a great deal of interest and excitement. It was mailed to over 6000
Digital customers and was handed-out at our "Come Home to Rdb"
hospitality event in Miami Beach on September 30-October 1.

Rdb World is a bi-monthly publication produced by Publications and
Communications (PCI), an independent publishing house in Austin, Texas.
PCI produces and distributes a variety of computer newspapers including:
The SUN Observer, Oracle News, and Digital Desktop.

We are now gearing up for the January issue of Rdb World. The deadline
for final articles is Monday, November 11.
                      ====================

If you plan to submit an article, please send me a brief description and
include approximately how long it will be (number of words or pages) and
whether you plan to include graphics. This way, I can let the editor at
PCI know that an article is being planned, and they can make room for
it. Or, if you have a story that you would like PCI to write, also let
me know. With sufficient lead time, they can work with you.

If you wish to get a subscription to Rdb World, you can call PCI at
512-250-9023 and ask for the circulation department.

1005.1How about Europe, we bring 60% of the revenueIJSAPL::OLTHOFHenny Olthof @UTO 838-2021Wed Nov 27 1991 16:069
    Hi,

    Someone unknown (hate it when secretaries strip the internal MAIL
    envelope off) send me a copy, it really looks nice. Any idea how we
    in Europe (both Digital employees and customers) might get a
    subscription?

    Thanks,
    Henny Olthof, TP-DB Netherlands

Luc,

This is the address off the subscription card:

	Publications & Communications, Inc.
	P. O. box 399
	Cedar Park, TX 78613-9987

It looks like the "free" applies to the U.S. only... in the fine print at
the bottom of the card it says "$75 overseas & Canada" :(

    Free only means the first 3 issues and then they will bill you $27.

    Not that anyone can answer this, but why does it cost $75 (probably
    U.S dollars) in Canada? The extra postage must be all of $10. You would
    think that Canada Post still uses dog sleds. Everyone knows they only
    have to use the dogs from October-May!
1005.6U.S. Advertising Won't Pay Your WayCOOKIE::BERENSONLex mala, lex nullaWed Jan 15 1992 21:1511
(1) Newspapers get a special bulk rate that is dirt cheap (by comparison)
here in the states. My guess is that no such international rate exists
and that the papers must be sent First Class.

(2) Advertisers pay based on circulation to their target market. An
advertiser will pay based on the U.S. circulation and not the
international circulation. In the case of U.S. customers, the paper is
only partially paid for by the subscriber. In the case of Canadian (and
other) subscribers, they charge you for the full costs.
