| If default Rdb databases are ok, he could use RALLY or DECdecision,
but maybe soe tuning is required afterwards.

datatrieve doesn't have databases, my guess is he is referring to RMS
files. In which case there is a lot of discussion of switching from
RMS to Rdb in the RDB_40 notesfile on NOVA. Also, an advantage of
Rdb/VMS is he can switch the RMS files to Rdb, and keep on using his
Datatrieve procdures etc, as the change will be invisible to the user.

992.4 | DTR - he has it already! | HGOVC::DEANGELIS | Momuntai | Thu Sep 19 1991 08:05 | 6 |
| I agree totally with .2 - If he already has DTR/RMS and is doing data entry
etc. (presumable through FMS) then he already has everything he needs. As
Simon says his procedures should (mostly) stay the same. He may need to tune
them for locking. The only other thing he needs to do is to create the db.

992.14 | Recommend RALLY - Digital gains more revenue. | KOBAL::KIRK | I've lost my hidden agenda! | Mon Oct 07 1991 01:49 | 9 |
| Recommend RALLY, Digital's strategic 4GL. This will ensure that Digital
receives all of the revenue from the sale. In this day and age we
cannot afford to give away any business to 3rd parties, unless we
cannot provide a requested product. In the case of 4GLs, we can provide
RALLY.
Richard
P.S. RALLY - available on MSDOS in the very near future.

992.15 | TRIM/tools or PARADOX/PARADOX SQL LINK, Maybe? | TYFYS::SLATER | As we see ourselves, so do we become. | Sun Oct 13 1991 03:50 | 32 |
| Re: .0
I am from the Center for Migration Services in Colorado Springs,
Colorado. I recommend two products:
1) TRIM/tools, a product that we use in-house, and in our
ORACLE to Rdb migration program. It is suite 4GL tools which
allows developers to rapidly put up a system, including
reports, screens, menus, and querying capability in a
very short period of time. For additional information,
e-mail me (TYFYS::SLATER) or Dave Munns (TYFYS::MUNNS)
who is our Database Migration Team Project Manager.
2) PARADOX and PARADOX SQL for Rdb/VMS. This pair of products
allows rapid prototyping and system development in an MS-DOS,
PC-based environment, while allowing upload, download, and
client/server access to Rdb/VMS databases on the VAX. Using
PARADOX/PARADOX SQL LINK is becoming more appealing due to the
present market penetration of PARADOX (and name recognition).
BORLAND International distributed more than 800,000 copies of
PARADOX in the past 12 months. For additional information
about PARADOX/PARADOX SQL LINK, you may e-mail me at TYFYS::
SLATER or review the notes I wrote up on it at NAC::IBMPC
No. 7323, or one of the notes I left on the Rdb/VMS, or
the SQL_SERVICES Notes files.
Good Luck!
