973.0. "JOIN limits in Rdb/Oracle/Sybase" by DOD2::ROBERTS () Mon Aug 12 1991 18:29

    Does anyone know if Rdb/VMS has any limits to the number of table
    joins that can be performed within a single query?

    How about Oracle and Sybase: Do they impose any physical limits?

    I have a proposal that requires up to 10 joins on a table. I need to
    know how we stack up vs our competition.

    Thanks in advance for any help...

Lisa,

I don't know about Oracle or Sybase, but Rdb has a limit of 32
"contexts"... which would be roughly equivalent to a table (if you were to
join the same table twice in the same query, it would count as 2).

Sounds like Rdb is well within the 10 table requirement.
