953.0. "Lets get together with Oracle" by IJSAPL::OLTHOF (Henny Olthof @UTO 838-2021) Fri Jul 12 1991 14:52

Who has seen any of these....

Image a full page advertisement with HUGE letters in the top section and
two little lines at the bottom.

Ad 1
----
HUGE: Rdb is Free. And worth every penny.
Bottom: DEC VAX 6540 running Rdb costs $66,000 per transaction. The same system
        running Oracle is only $30,000 per transaction. Any questions. Call
        1-800-527-6560 Ext. 1608. The phone call, of course, is free.

Ad 2
----
HUGE: Even free, Rdb costs twice as much as Oracle
Bottom: A 20 user OLTP system running Rdb is $300,000. A 20 user OLPTP system
        with Oracle is only $150,000. Any questions? Call 1-800-527-1527 Ext.
        1607.

Ad 3
----
HUGE: Rdb. It's slow, it's proprietary, it locks you in. Maybe that's why it's
      free.
Bottom: Rdb only runs in a VAX environment. Oracle runs on virtually every
        computer, operating system and network you have today. Or will have
        tomorrow, And, by the way, Oracle is twice as fast as Rdb. Any
        questions? Call 1-800-567-6785 Ext. 1604 for more information.

I got copies of the ads via a famlily relation of one of our local employees,
who works for Oracle marketing. I don't know wether these have actually been
published or are just samples of what Oracle may use in the future.

Who had this idea of getting friends with Oracle? Guess we have to give them a
call.

    Interesting advertisements. I went to Database World in Boston about
    1 years ago. I tried to talk to 2 ORACLE Reps there. They both
    looked at my name tag (Digital was on it) and wouldn't even talk to me.

953.2Oracle sales reps are badIJSAPL::OLTHOFHenny Olthof @UTO 838-2021Wed Jul 31 1991 09:297
    My experience is, that Oracle marketing and management people are not
    so bad to deal with. It's those sales reps (the ones that get paid on
    provision of sales) that are annoying. In fact, one of my best friends
    from university works in the support center of Digital Holland. He
    supports VAX VMS customers.
