Greetings, I need 'clairvoyance' help with answering a point in an RFP dealing with Oracle. The point that has to be answered deals with: 1) "must support 200 Oracle users". They do not identify what version of Oracle nor what type of work the 200 user will be doing. Assuming a VAX 9410 as a platform, what would your 'atmospheric extrication' justification be for: a: the amount of memory needed to support the users. b: number of spindles needed to spread the I/O generated by the users. This is obviously quite frustrating since key points necessary to making an informed decision are missing, however, I'm hoping that some folk out there that are familiar with large Oracle operations on a VMS system might be able to provide a bit of rational which could be applied to 'a' and 'b' above. Any thoughts will be warmly received. Thanks in advance for your help, Eric

Eric, I doubt anyone will be able to give you any usefull sizing information from .0. Is there a reason why you can not get the required information from the customer and ORACLE? Is there a reason why you are only considering VAX/VMS? If the competition is bidding UNIX risc boxes, they are going to be a lot cheaper. regards, Ken McMullen | |||||

Ken, Thanks for the reply, ... lack of information - Reason - we are 'in process' answering an RFP, the agency cannot provide 'additional' information to one participant without opening the door to questions from all participants. ... VAX/VMS -Reason - It's what they want and what they've asked for. I agree 100% with your title on .1 (NOT ENOUGH INFO *** sigh ***) If anyone can help with an educated guess, it will keep me from making an uneducated guess. Eric |
