815.0. "Writeups on Rdb needed" by ZPOVC::JEFFREYCHOY (Love the Sinners hate the sins) Mon Dec 03 1990 09:20

    Hello,

Is there any independent writeups on Rdb.
My customer is convinced with what we said about Rdb and all that
is left to do is to produce some independent writeup on Rdb.

I shall appreciate if anybody outthere have any such writeup to
    share with me.

    Thanks in advance, Jeffrey

    Hi,

Infact I used to distribute copies of this Martin Butler report on Rdb.
Unfortunately, I no longer have any copy left for myself. I think
this report by now ,almost a year or more old is not too up-to-date.
Besides, new features like 2PC is not included.

    Thanks anyway, Jeffrey

815.3New reports from ButlerBloor, any other reports?IJSAPL::OLTHOFHenny Olthof @UTO 838-2021Tue Dec 04 1990 09:4313
Anyway, the ButlerBloor report is sold-out (has been for the last two
months). The same authors have written two new reports

    - 4GL's: An Evaluation and Comparison
    - Database: An Evaluation and Comparison

In the first one, mainly portable tools are discussed (no Rally), the
second report is less positive about Rdb tham the first one (stating
that the DLM causes performance problems), Still Rdb is among the
systems best for Large TP applications and among the products with best
    overall functionality.

If you can spend the money, get a copy of both reports

The butlerbloor report IS being updated for 4.0. It will be available
in Northboro shortly after 4.0 ships.

In the CIS system is also an older Rdb 3.0 MIC report.
Updated copies are also due for purchase after shipping.

Your customer could always hire an independent consultant LIKE a Martin
Butler or a Rich Finkelstein if they are close to a decision and are
willing to spend the money to get reinforcement for the Rdb choice.

In the meantime, look at the magazines and trade press following our
Nov. 5th announcement. Good backup material.
