744.0. "2PC implementations" by ROM01::FERRARIS (Discover wildlife... have kids!) Mon Sep 24 1990 16:23

    I scanned this notesfile looking for info about 2PC implementations,
    but I only found one note dated Oct 1989. One year ago, nobody seemed
    to have anything but rudimental. Now that Rdb 4.0 is quite ready to
    ship, it would be useful to have an update, and an evaluation of
    pros/cons in comparison with our implementation.

    I would be interested in Ingres and Sybase, as I know that Oracle will
    have 2PC in V7.0 (i.e. who knows when? :-)). Does anybody have this
    information? Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    	Massimiliano

744.1What I've learnd in a Codd/Date seminarSUOSW3::KAISERworking...Mon Sep 24 1990 16:5511
I've been on a Codd&Date seminar in Munich this year, where Colin White did a
comparison of various DBMS. Here's a list of systems that have 2PC:

	- CA-DB:STAR (Computer Associates)
	- NonStop/SQL (Tandem)
	- Ingres/Star (RTI) (has a 'user managed 2PC' ?)
	- SQL Server (Sybase, Microsoft)
		(2PC can be implemented using DB library calls)

Hope that helps

744.2Any more info?ROMSLS::FERRARISMAMurphy was an optimistTue Sep 25 1990 11:369
    Thanks Hans for your reply. Do you have something more specific (i.e.
    technical characteristics). For exaample, I believe that "user managed
    2PC" means that the user has to write his own coordinator and manage
    the various actions involved in 2PC. Is this true? Does anybody else
    have this kind of information?

Yes, maybe someone who knows Ingres or ULTRIX/SQL can tell us more about this.
