739.0. "DATAEASE AND SYBASE SQL SERVER" by GLDOA::DISHNEAU (Terry Dishneau @FHO DTN 471-5343) Mon Sep 17 1990 18:51

    HELLO:

At a meeting last vFriday with Chrysler Proving Grounds,
at which we were discussing networking their PC's for two projects,
the database issue and PC toools was a signnificant issue.

They are going to network for the first smaller project, pcs using
a OS/2 server with the database being SYBASE.

A strong facvtor in the decision was DataEASE 's product for the
Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server PLUS THE SYBASE PORTABILITY FEATURE.

I strongly urge people to get the DataEase marketing piece entitled:
         		    DataEase SQL
THE FRONT_END APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM FOR
    			SQL DATBASE ENGINES
    		A PERSPECTIVE ON Client/Server Architecture.

In this is a list of Supported servers including:
    	IBM/OS/2 EXTENDED EDITION DATABASE MANAGER
    	SYBASE
    	ORACLE SERVER
    	TERADATA DBC/1012

THE SYSBASE/SQL SERVER IS SHIPPING NOW AND THE REMAINDER WILL BE
    AVAILABLE IN CALENDAR Q1 91.

DATAEASE CAN ALSO ACCESS DATA ON IBM DB/2 SQL/DS AND OS/400 USING THE
    MICRO DECISIONWARE'S DATABASE GATEWAY SOFTWARE

THERE IS NO MENTION OF RDB.

This would impact the second business issue of networking PC'S AT THE
PROVING GROUNDS. A key is they want access to RDB data easily across
the network with an easy SQL tool. They really like DataEase over
    Dbase IV.

In conversation I had with Chris Miller at DataEase, I asked about RDB
support, and he mentioned that currently there is none and I asked him
about accessing RDB data from DataEase and he had no solution.

Now my concern is that if DataEase catches fire at the Proving Grounds
and spreads throughout Chrysler, it could have a definite impact on
    PC networking issues.

DataEase is offering an easy to use Database tool on the pc level.

I asked Chris about competition and he said it is almost like they
    are alone:

Paradox with it's SQL link is closest to a competitor.

    REGARDS,

    TERRY DISHNEAU

739.1This sounds like a job for RSVP!MBALDY::LANGSTONRdb Sales Support MercenaryThu Sep 20 1990 21:4613
Terry,

This sounds like somethings the RSVP (Rdb Solutions Vendor Program) office
should know about. They encourage third parties to develop Rdb-based versions
of their products and applications.

I have heard several people say very complimentary things about DataEase.
DataEase sounds like a good candidate for the RSVP.

The RSVP office number is DTN 264-1452. Since you have a contact at DataEsae,
why don't you contact RSVP.
