699.0. "Teamdata-like on a PC ?" by ROM01::DIIORIO (Claudia Di Iorio) Tue Jul 31 1990 11:18

    Hi,

I have a customer who wants to be able to read/bring Rdb data from a
VAX to a PC, using a teamdata-like interface and do computing on the
    PC.
What can we offer, keeping in mind that the PC user interface has
    to be teamdata/Lotus like ?

He has been told that Nomad can do this.

Does anybody know if this is true ?

    Thanks for any help,

    Claudia.

Have you looked into Data Lens with Lotus?

I don't believe the Data Lens driver on the PC will access Rdb on
the VAX. It only works with Lotus for VMS today. Hopefully soon
it will solve your problem. Rumour has it that there may be an
    announcement this fall.

At DECworld Borland was showing Paradox (similiar to Dbase) and
Quattro (spreadsheet that is apparently like Lotus - too much so according
to the legal department at Lotus) accessing Rdb from the PC and
Mac. I have read recently that Quattro sells as many licenses as
Lotus 1-2-3. Lotus has a larger installed base, that is being eroded
    by Quattro.

Ashton-Tate was also showing Dbase IV for VMS accessing Rdb. Hopefully
when they announce in September they will make a statement about
    Dbase-PC accessing Rdb.

There is also JAM from JYACC. They were also at DECworld. They sent
me a nice little package which includes a demo disk that runs on your
favorite DOS machine. Haven's had a chance to look at it yet. For
