689.0. "SYBASE -- URGENT Help needed" by ACESMK::ALEXANDER (The older I get the better I was) Wed Jul 11 1990 18:55

I'm making an emergency trip to try to save an account from SYBASE and need
help fast. SYBASE ran a benchmark using C and SQL because (rumor) SYBASE and
COBOL do not have the same good performance. Does anyone know if there is any
truth to the rumor?

    Well, Sybase does have its roots in the Unix environment (try calling
    their support center and asking for cobol help..hahahaha). So a 'C'
    orientation would seem logical....

689.2We stopped SYBASEIJSAPL::OLTHOFHenny Olthof @UTO 838-2021Fri Jul 13 1990 09:3712
    We succeeded instopping SYBASE recently and the customer is now going for
    ACMS, Rdb and DECforms. An external consultant was heavily pushing SYBASE,
    the customer went to Rdb and SYBASE reference sites and the main
    reasons why WE won the battle were:

    - Rdb had some good references and it is a DIGITAL product
    - SYBASE could not (would not) offer any support or consultancy during
      the development of the business critical application
