I am writing this note on behalf of a friendly insider at my customer's site. He is struggling to prevent the other influential people at the site from going for ORACLE. His problem is that some of these people are almost certain to purchase off-the-shelf ORACLE products. These will then leaverage a development license for ORACLE and ORACLE tools. The Rdb friendly customer is thinking of heading off the development license on ORACLE. They already have an Rdb development license. They have not yet selected tools. His question!! How well will PowerHouse Tools work with ORACLE DBMS??? Thanks, Brad dtn: 637-3532

PowerHouse WILL NOT WORK WITH ORACLE. Cognos considers Oracle a major competitor. ---- Michael Booth

Cognos have brought out / it's imminent StarGate for Oracle - this lets a PH application read and write to an Oracle 'database'. To the user, its a relational table. They will be pushing it 'as a way out from the Oracle trap' (or words to that effect). Have a word with your local Cognos rep, or I can get more info. jon.
681.3 | Most anything is faster than SQL*Forms | BROKE::THOMAS | Sat Aug 25 1990 00:53 | 5
You might also try TRIFOX. Their tools can access both Rdb and ORACLE, and TRIM/APP runs substantially (3-4x) faster than SQL*Forms. Remember, SQL*Forms is purely interpretive code. They actually store the applications in the database. SQL*Forms is very slow. Most third party tools run faster. |
