678.0. "INGRES Technical information ???" by IJSAPL::HOOGERWERF (Gerard Hoogerwerf) Tue Jun 26 1990 09:49
Dear INGRES experts, I have a technical question for you about INGRES...
Probably this is not exactly the right place, but it is the only place I could
find.
I'm working on a project where we use the INGRES database on a
DECstation - Ultrix platform. (Unfortunalety Rdb is not available on UNIX)
The INGRES release is 6.2...
Well, so far the introduction, here is the problem description:
When I start the application, it works very nice until it has had a number
of transactions (100 or 1000 or 10000, you never can tell how many)
Then INGRES hangs. In IIMONITOR I see the process hanging in either LOG-IO
or BIO. When in LOG-IO I found out that the application runs transaction
per tranaction every time I enter IIMONITOR and quit from it.
The 'logstat' and 'lockstat' information looks solid.
A second problem is that when the first occurs, INGRES is corrupt somehow
I have to kill the iidbms server, shut INGRES down, start it up and then
it may work again.
I went to INGRES with this problem but until now they have been not too
helpfull, although they admitted that it looks like an INGRES bug...
My question:
- Did anyone of you meet the same problem ?
- Did you solve it ?
- If yes and yes then how did you do it...

I'd try the Ultrix/Sql conference, SMURF::ULTRIX_SQL.
