Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT - U.S. PRODUCT SALES MGR. - INFORMATION MGT.

Earlier this month, we announced a new unit in U.S. Product Sales
focusing on strategic software technolgies and managed by Ed Muth.
In that memo we announced two of what will be five US-level sales
managers. We are very pleased to continue that announcement
process today by naming Dick Delorenzo as the U.S. Information
    Management Product Sales Manager.

Dick has had a long and successful sales management career, much
of it within Digital. Most recently, he headed the ISST in
Philadelphia, where he will continue to reside and from which he
    will perform this U.S.-level job.

Information is one of the key assets of large companies,
governmental agencies, and not-for-profit enterprises. Digital
must win a meaningful, preferably leadership, role in the
information architectures of its customers in order to be a major
    and strategic vendor.

Information management is far more than just selling database
systems, although continuing to drive the penetration and market
share of Rdb (which is now the #1 relational database on VAX/VMS)
is an important sales objective. Increasingly, firms want to
manage not just alphanumeric data, but also image, voice,
laboratory data, documents, and metadata in an integrated, secure,
recoverable fashion. Database products, database tools,
interoperability products, and information management service
offerings need to be combined to solve the large-scale,
    increasingly distributed, multi-language, and multi-vendor
information management problems of our important prospects and
    customers.

Dick will have responsibility for driving the U.S. Sales effort
around this issue as well as working crossfunctionally with all of
the service and support organizations to assure readiness in this
    important discipline.

Please join us in welcoming Dick to his new job.

    Regards,
