568.0. "Applications on RDB" by TRCO01::SANDHU (Database/OLTP Sales) Tue Feb 13 1990 21:58

I have a customer who is interested in a some specific RDB
applications, no RMS based but RDB (for comparison against Oracle).
I have looked at the RSVP list by application etc. but I need something
specific. Even if there are people porting to RDB in the near future,
it will really help. This is mostly for generating the warm fuzzies
with the customer - they will not implement the application for
at least 6 months. Here it goes:

    Business Planning & Analysis
        -financial planning, program administration
    Project Management
        -project administration, planning & control
    CAD
        - CAD Design, construction, consulting, realty applications
    Human Resources
        -Employee administration, salary, benefits etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, hold back the replies, you're overwhelming me!
    Where is everybody?
Should I be looking elsewhere for answers to my question?

Try Ken NOVA::Morse, He is in charge of the RSVP recruitment campaign to get
third parties to port their applications to Rdb. He would be my first
    contect.

We have been working with a number of 3rd parties in FABS, but so far,
we don't have anyone who has good product to deliver in the corporate
financials, accounting, and human resource area. Ross Systems, for
Accounting, is committed to Rdb and should be delivering product in a
year or so. The big CMPs, M&D, AMS, CA, IA, etc. are all considering
a development effort, but won't be delivering product anytime soon.
Pioneer, with the GEMBASE/Rdb based accounting and manufacturing
products for process industries, are just in the process of bringing
their products developed in/for the SPR geographies to the US; they
are just starting their effort to build a sales and support staff, and
might be ready to move accounting product within a year.

Many of our vendors are multi-platform, and they are looking at ways
to insure common application code for multiple systems vendors. The
Rdb story is good for VAX, but currently doesn't go beyond that. We
    will keep trying, however.

I just had a glossy from a company called MEGA offering financial
systems (accounting, corporate reporting, payroll, planning, asset
management, and distribution) based on Rdb and integrated with
ALL-IN-1. Glossy suggests these products are available now.

568.5A MAJOR SUCCESS!! Thanks everyone!TRCA01::SANDHUWed Apr 18 1990 23:0016

Thanks one and all - WE WON!!!

The account is a large govt. ministry, and although the ministry
had initially chosen ORACLE as their database standard, we went
in, had a great strategy thanks to the account manager, and overturned
    the ORACLE decision.

Not only that, the customer is standardizing on RALLY, VAXset and
    CDD/PLUS.

If anyone needs more information, don't hesistate to call me or
the Canadian Database Marketing Manager, Doreen Coyne. Or better
yet, the account manager, Beverley Cooke. The key to winning this, in
the final analysis was the account manager, and her desire to win.
