540.0. "ORACLE Quotable Quotes !!!" by SNOC01::BELAKHOVM (Target sighted - FIRE !!!) Thu Jan 18 1990 00:46

    I thought it would be good to have a note on ORACLE "quotable quotes".

    A consultant (large accounting firm) was given a presentation by Oracle
    last week. This guy is very friendly towards Digital, so he relayed
    the following quote:

    The Oracle salesman doing the presentation started off by saying:

    "Oracle corporation will be bigger than Digital by 1995 and bigger than
    IBM by 2001."

    This certainly is quite funny, however, some of the customers believe
    them.

    Maybe they should change their name to Ripley's (Believe it or NOT).

    Instead of Ripley's Believe it or Not ...

    it should be .....

    Larry's Believe it or Rot ....

540.2Reboot VMS everynight !!MAIL::DUNCANGGerry Duncan @KCOThu Jan 18 1990 03:529
    Here's one for you ....

    An Oracle level III support person (level I is the grunt the customer
    gets when the call for support) told my customer to reboot VMS EVERY
    night in order to "... clean up all the VMS fragmentation ..." and
    that this would help the Oracle performance.

    When I challenged him on this .... he lied to me .... said it came
    from the customer .....
540.3Where do they get this stuff from !!!SNOC01::BELAKHOVMTarget sighted - FIRE !!!Thu Jan 18 1990 23:398
    This one came from a customer yesterday.

    He was told by the Oracle salesman that V6 DID support VAXclusters and
    used the distributed lock manager (DLM) to do it. However, due to the
    bugs in the DLM that Digital put in, Oracle do not recommend that
    customers use clusters.

    How about the customer I ran into in Los Alamos....

    "Oracle has more features and is faster than any other database on the
    market"

    "Where did you hear that?" I asked....

    " From the Oracle salesrep, of course..."

    I felt like asking "Were her lips moving when she said it?"
