510.0. "Oracle Publishing Company Created" by KCBBQ::DUNCAN (Oracle ... the designer database) Wed Dec 06 1989 19:46
From page 6 of the December 4 issue of Infoworld:
Oracle develops a new subsidiary in Bellevue, Wash for the selling of
information and the access tools. Oracle Data Publishing (ODP) was formed to
acquire and sell a wide range of data and information in electronic forms such
as marketing, directories, textual, professional information, references, video,
and sound. ODP products will be distributed in "industry-standard" file
structures, not just in Oracle-specific formats. If customers want CD ROM, 9
track, tape, satellite, ODP will do it. Competitors will be D&B and Dow Jones.
So after reading this I have a couple of questions:
==> Question: Does this mean that I will be able to run the Oracle RDBMS on my
newly purchased JVC CD player ? Answer: yes, Oracle runs on every platform
... but you fool, you need the 6 CD changer module ... sorry.
==> Question: Does this mean that Oracle will buy Michael Jackson's song
collection which includes that famous Beatles song, "Hey Jude" ? Answer:
Yes but the song will be renamed "Hey Larry" and Michael's famous moonwalk
will be renamed to SQL*moonwalk.
==> Question: Does this mean that Oracle will purchase Ted Turner's film
collection including the famous Elvis film "Blue Hawaii" ? Answer: Yes !!
Except the film will be renamed "Blue Larry" and the head of Elvis will be
replaced with Ellison's head through a new Oracle product named
SQL*headswap.

| The famous Beatles song 'Yesterday' may be renamed to 'Tomorrow'
or 'Certainly before the end of the quarter' or 'Within the next
month'. As we know, Larry sometimes gets his tenses wrong.
(This one could run and run :-)

In fact 'Hey Jude" may become "Hey NCube" with the lyric of the
song "Don't let me down" taking on a whole new meaning. (:-)
