I've got a query from Michael Booth's excellent Oracle V6.0 competetive fact sheet - see note 461.2. Why can't Oracle handle media failures ? Could somebody please enlighten me.

That should have been removed from the sheet, but... Oracle has two recovery modes. The only one that can recover a media failuer is the archival mode. And even that requires that all the database files and logs be handled manually. That is, someone has to know how to handle all the diverse files neede to recover that database from a media failure. The documnet will be changed to say that recovery is manually done and very complex. ---- Michael Booth |
