391.0. "Maximum supportable database sizes ?" by LARVAE::TARZEY (Bob Tarzey, UK GRAC) Thu Jul 20 1989 17:10
I have been asked to evaluate various database management systems
with particular reference to the maximum size of database that
the various products will support. I have all the information
concerning Rdb in this area but would like more information on
third party products. There seem to be two factors which may
constrain database size:
1. The time it takes to back the database up
2. Whether or not database tables can be spread over more than
one disk
The customer concerned has expressed interest in both VMS and
Ultrix systems. Is any one able to comment the size of database
supported by Oracle, Ingres, Informix etc. on either operating
system, taking into account the above two considerations. All
comments gratefully received.
This note has been posted in VIA_FORUM and RDB_VMS_COMPETITION.
Regards Bob Tarzey
